Who is God like? Vv. 4-6 God is the only one true God in the world. Gods whom people call as gods are lifeless (see Ac 17:23), non-substantial, empty beings (Isa 44:9-20). Only one God, one Lord, created all creatures on the earth as well as human beings. Therefore, the reason why I exist is only for Jesus. My goal and my direction is only for Jesus and I live today only because of Him.
What lesson is God teaching me? Vv. 1-3 We cannot build community and relationships with the knowledge that we can eat food sacrificed to idols because idols are nothing. Precise ¡°knowledge¡± about idols is important, but the more important thing is ¡°love¡±. When the knowledge is self-centered, we become proud and it causes conflicts and finally destroys the community. It is true that we must give our effort to know more about God and his word, but we must do our best to love one another as much as we know.
Vv. 8,9 It doesn¡¯t matter what kind of food Christians eat. Food doesn¡¯t have anything to do with making a relationship with God. Rather the thought of strong believers who think they can eat anything affects the weak believers and their relationship with God. What do we need to give up in order for the weak not to stumble by our freedom?
