Who is God like? Vv. 22-24 God is the Lord of all. He has redeemed us, and paid off all our debt. Therefore, everyone belongs to God, whether they are a slave, a freeman, a man, a woman, rich or poor. We must be a faithful servant of God, who is our Lord, instead of being a slave to man.
What lesson is God teaching me? Vv. 18-20 For Jews, circumcision is important because it is symbolic of the covenant relationship with God. In order to be saved, people with a Jewish mentality insisted that men must be circumcised. Others with a Greek mentality tried to remove this symbol because they were ashamed of circumcision. For this reason, Paul advised them to remain as they are called, whether they were circumcised or not. True circumcision needs to be done in our hearts, not to our bodies. Obeying God¡¯s words inwardly is more important than your outward appearance.
Vv. 20,21 Seek God¡¯s purpose for why he allowed you to be who you are today. Only concentrate on serving the Lord, making use of your circumstances as a Christian, whether you work for others or others work for you. Regardless of your status, it is more important to obey God¡¯s words rather than achieving a certain social status.
